In my country, the primary tool for rock drilling is the brazed bit, specifically designed to be connected with the cone and utilized in conjunction with finished brazing. To maximize the lifespan of the threaded button bits, proper usage is of utmost importance. It is advisable to bear the following points in mind during the drilling process:
First and foremost, ensure a precise match between the brazed drill bit and the drill pipe, ensuring that the taper is identical. Ideally, both the in-line drill bit and the brazing rod should be procured from the same company to prevent potential losses during usage.
At the initial stage of rock drilling operations with the in-line drill bit, it is recommended to reduce the air volume to minimize potential damage to the tool. Once the drill bit has entered the rock, adjust the air volume back to normal levels.
Throughout the drilling process, should the brazed drill develop a hole larger than 3 mm or exhibit an inverted taper, it is imperative to remove, polish, and repair the brazed drill. Failure to do so may result in decreased working speed and, in severe cases, lead to brazing issues with subsequent drill bits.
If the in-line drill bit encounters steel bars during drilling, promptly avoid them and adjust the direction and position of the hole whenever possible to prevent damage to the drill bit from foreign objects.
Should brazing occur during rock drilling with the in-line bit, it is necessary to replace the drill bit with a cross bit or another type of brazed bit. Similarly, when significant wear is observed on the in-line drill bit, it must be promptly replaced with other types of alloy brazing drill bits.
To enhance the lifespan of the brazed bit, ensure an adequate water supply during rock drilling, as this helps prevent bit wear or brazing issues.
By adhering to these guidelines, you can optimize the usage and longevity of threaded button bits during rock drilling operations.
