The shank adapter is a part of the drill bit of the rock drill, and it plays a key role in the entire rock drilling process.
Energy transfer effect
The rock drill will generate a strong impact force when working, and the shank adapter is the component that receives the impact energy of the rock drill piston. When the piston of the rock drill reciprocates and hits the drill tail, the shank adapter transfers this impact force to the entire drill rod. For example, in a pneumatic rock drill, compressed air drives the piston to move at high speed. At the moment when the piston hits the drill tail, the energy is transmitted along the drill rod in the form of a stress wave through the drill tail, so that the drill head obtains enough energy to break the rock.
Connection effect
The shank adapter is an important component that connects the rock drill and the drill rod. One end of it is tightly matched with the head of the rock drill, and the other end is connected to the drill rod. Through special connection structures, such as threaded connection or other forms of mechanical connection, it is ensured that the rock drill, the shank adapter and the drill rod become a whole during the working process, ensuring that energy can be effectively transferred between them. If the connection is not stable, energy loss will occur when the rock drill is working, and it may even cause safety hazards such as the drill rod falling off.
Guiding role
The shank adapter plays a guiding role in the head of the rock drill. It ensures that the drill rod can move in the right direction under the multiple impacts of the piston. This is like the track of a train. The shape of the shank adapter and the matching accuracy with the head prevent the drill rod from deflecting during operation, thus ensuring that the drill head can accurately break the rock. Without good guidance, the drill head may deviate from the predetermined drilling position, affecting the quality and efficiency of drilling.
