Precautions for using thread button bits

Equipment installation and inspection

Correct installation: When installing the thread button bits, it is necessary to ensure that the drill bit is tightly connected to the drill rod of the rock drilling trolley. The connection parts should be clean and free of impurities, oil, etc. to prevent the drill bit from falling off during operation due to loose connection. Follow the operating instructions of the equipment manufacturer and use appropriate tools for installation, such as a torque wrench, to ensure that the connecting bolts reach the specified torque value.

Check the integrity of the drill bit: Before each use, carefully check the appearance of the drill bit. Check whether the drill bit body has cracks, deformation and other damage, and whether the cutting teeth are loose, falling off or excessively worn. If cracks are found in the drill bit body, even tiny cracks, it cannot be used, because during high-impact drilling, the cracks may expand rapidly and cause the drill bit to break. For the cutting teeth, if there is looseness, it needs to be re-fixed; if the wear is severe, the drill bit should be replaced in time to avoid affecting the drilling efficiency and quality.

Drilling operation process

Parameter setting: Reasonably set the drilling parameters of the rock drilling trolley according to the hardness of the rock and the type of drill bit. Including impact pressure, rotation speed and thrust, etc. For rocks with higher hardness, such as granite, it is necessary to increase the impact pressure and thrust appropriately, but be careful not to increase the rotation speed too high to avoid damaging the drill bit. In soft rocks, such as shale, the impact pressure should be reduced and the rotation speed should be appropriately increased to achieve efficient cutting.

Drilling direction control: It is crucial to accurately control the drilling direction of the drill bit. Use the guidance system of the rock drilling rig to ensure that the drill bit drills according to the designed drilling path. During the drilling process, pay close attention to the drilling angle and direction changes of the drill bit. If deviations are found, they should be adjusted in time. Especially in occasions such as tunnel engineering that require high-precision drilling, slight directional deviations may cause difficulties in subsequent construction, such as the inability to properly install anchor rods or the inability of the advance small guide tube to effectively reinforce the surrounding rock.

Slag removal: A large amount of rock cuttings will be generated during the drilling process, and good slag removal must be ensured. If the rock cuttings cannot be discharged in time, they will accumulate in the borehole, increase the resistance of the drill bit, reduce the drilling efficiency, and may even cause the drill to get stuck. Rock drilling rigs are usually equipped with a slag removal system. To ensure that the slag removal channel is unobstructed, the flow rate of the flushing fluid can be appropriately increased to assist in slag removal when necessary. The flushing fluid can also cool the drill bit and extend the service life of the drill bit.

Maintenance and care of drill bits

Timely cleaning: After use, the drill bit should be cleaned as soon as possible. Remove impurities such as rock chips, oil stains, etc. on the drill bit to prevent them from corroding the drill bit. You can use special cleaning agents and tools, such as soft brushes, to clean the drill bit, especially pay attention to cleaning the area around the cutting teeth, because rock chips tend to accumulate here.

Check the wear condition: Check the wear degree of the drill bit regularly. In addition to the inspection before each use, a more detailed wear assessment should be performed after the drill bit has been used for a certain period of time. Decide whether the drill bit needs to be repaired or replaced based on the wear condition. For carbide drill bits, if the cutting teeth wear exceeds a certain limit (such as the wear height reaches 1/3 of the original height), the drill bit generally needs to be replaced; for PDC drill bits, if the polycrystalline diamond composite sheet is cracked or excessively worn, it should also be replaced in time.

Proper storage: When the drill bit is not in use, it should be properly stored. Store the drill bit in a dry, well-ventilated environment to avoid moisture and rust. You can apply a layer of anti-rust oil on the surface of the drill bit to prevent the drill bit from rusting. At the same time, avoid collision and extrusion of the drill bit to prevent damage to the drill body or cutting teeth.
