Key operating points of roller cone bits

1. Before entering the well: Install a fishing cup on one drill bit. After the previous drill bit is lifted out, check the outer diameter wear and other wear conditions of the roller bit before entering the well. If the outer diameter is measured as the previous one is in normal use, then The diamond drill bit can go into the well. Check whether the cutting teeth are damaged, check whether the water eye is blocked, check the outer diameter of the drill bit, whether the drilling fluid meets the design requirements, and whether the purification equipment is operating normally. It is recommended to use a desander.
2. When the drill bit touches the bottom of the well at low pressure, and when using down the hole power drilling tools to drill:
1) When the drill bit is close to the bottom of the well, start the pump and gradually increase to the required displacement;
2) After cleaning the bottom of the well for a short time, then slowly increase the WOB;
3) When the weight on bit increases, the pump pressure also rises accordingly, and the pressure change and the value of the weight on bit must be controlled within the technical specifications of the motor;
4) The drill pipe should be rotated slowly to prevent sticking;
5) Others are operated according to the standard operation of ordinary rotary table drilling.
3. Special attention:
1) This bit is not suitable for drilling gravel layers. Before drilling into the gravel layer, start drilling ahead of time, lower the roller cone bit, and after passing through the gravel layer, lower the diamond bit;
2) Prevent the turntable with WOB from starting;
3) When drilling into a large section of loose sandstone formation, it is necessary to appropriately reduce the ROP to consolidate the open hole wall and prevent the casing running from being blocked;
4) During directional drilling, check whether the power drilling tool is operating normally. Test operation should be carried out when the drill bit is not connected. It is strictly forbidden to connect the drill bit to the wellhead to prevent damage to the cutting teeth;
5) If it is found that the drill bit has no footage, the pump pressure increases or decreases significantly, the ROP suddenly drops, the torque increases, etc., if there is no problem with the ground equipment, the drill should be checked out.
