Drill rods are the latest weapon for human beings to conquer rocks and minerals. They are composed of a slender rod system. Under the conditions of severe wear of rocks and minerals and erosion and corrosion of high-pressure water flow (or compressed air) and mine water, they are subjected to tension, compression, bending, twisting and high-frequency impacts of about 2000-9000 times per minute by rock drills. Each impact energy is as high as 25-500J. They often fail in the form of stress corrosion fatigue fracture, and their service life is only tens of minutes. Therefore, rock drills are the most demanding mechanical tools of all human beings, with the shortest service life, high technical content, and a large number of consumable tools necessary for basic industries. Mining workers in more than 100 countries and regions around the world work 8 hours a day, and more than half of their time is spent drilling holes in rocks and minerals. The annual consumption of rock drills required is about 50 times that of the domestic market in my country. my country produces about 7,000 tons of cemented carbide for drill rods annually, ranking first in the world, and its quality is close to the international advanced level. The national mining engineering departments consume more than 30,000 tons of drill steel and drill tools and more than 30 million pieces each year, with a value of about 2 billion yuan. The annual capacity of the international rock drilling drill tool market is as high as 10 billion US dollars.
The domestic market price of drill rods in my country is only 1/3-1/10 of the international market price of similar and equivalent drill tools. With the technical and economic advantages, many countries import cheap tungsten ore from China and export finished drill rods at high prices. Due to various historical reasons and backward drill tool technology and production management for many years, my country has not yet produced ambitious drill tool industrialists and famous multinational drill tool companies under the current system. So far, the annual foreign exchange earnings of rock drilling drill tools in China are only more than 10 million US dollars. Among them, the foreign exchange earnings of long drill tools such as drill rods and whole drills are less than 1/4 of the total foreign exchange earnings of drill tools. The poor quality of domestic drill steel and the short and unstable life of drill rods have become the main "bottleneck" restricting the modernization of my country's drill steel, drill tools and mining industry and the export of long drill tools.
At present, the drill rod specifications commonly used at home and abroad are: H19, H22, H25, H28, H32, H35, H38, H45mm hexagonal, and D32, D38, D45, D51mm round hollow steel drill rods. The drill rod length is generally 0.4 to 6.4m.
